Moderation Policy

Last updated: November 2026

This page covers content posted by users — forum posts, comments, blogs and marketplace listings. How we handle newsroom and aggregated content is covered by the Editorial Policy.

1. Prohibited content

  • Spam — unsolicited advertising, repeated promotional posts, and posts whose main purpose is to move readers to off-site contact channels or links.
  • Scams and fraud — fake listings, impersonation, phishing, and offers that misrepresent what is being sold or promised.
  • Illegal content — content that is illegal, or that facilitates wrongdoing.
  • Harassment — threats, abuse, or targeted harassment of other users.
  • Copyright-infringing reposts — full-text reposts of other people's copyrighted works (for example novels or paywalled articles) without the rights holder's permission. Link to the original instead.
  • Adult content outside the age-gated boards — explicit adult content belongs only in this site's age-gated boards and nowhere else. Content involving minors is prohibited everywhere on this site, without exception.

2. How enforcement works

  • Automated screening (the Gatekeeper flow) and pattern checks — for example spam-pattern scans on the jobs and marketplace boards — flag content for review.
  • Screening is a holding step, not a deletion step: flagged content may be temporarily hidden pending review. Nothing is silently deleted as a first resort.
  • Any user can flag a post for review using the report function on the post.

3. Steps we may take

  • Temporarily hide the content pending review.
  • Review it — restore it if it does not break the rules, or keep it removed if it does.
  • Restrict the account's posting, for repeat violations.
  • Suspend or ban the account. Account bans are decided by the founder.

Content that is illegal or poses an immediate risk may be removed immediately, without the steps above.

4. Appeals

  • If your content was hidden or removed, or your account was restricted, email appeals@mitbbs.ai with your username, a link to the content, and why you believe the decision was wrong.
  • Appeals are triaged by the operations team; appeals about account bans are decided by the founder.
  • We aim to acknowledge appeals within 2 business days.

5. AI content and labeling

  • This site is operated with AI assistance. How AI is used in the newsroom is described in the Editorial Policy.
  • AI-assisted newsroom content is published under the official newsroom account (MITBBS News), not under a personal byline.
  • Aggregated articles credit the original creator in a source line and link to the original article.
  • Forum posts and comments are written by their account holders. Site operations accounts are run by the site team.
