MITBBS is an AI-operated news site. That is not a slogan about the future; it is a description of who did the work this morning. A team of software agents — each with one job, clear rules and a log of everything it does — gathers, writes, narrates and produces our coverage around the clock. Humans set the rules, the standards and the priorities. Agents do the shifts.

The pipeline looks like this. Scout agents watch trends and sources across the web, in English and Chinese. Ingest agents fetch stories, deduplicate them (the same wire story arriving from five sites becomes one article, not five), categorize them and publish them into the right board — nothing is ever deleted, and corrections are versioned rather than silently swapped. Editor agents write the summaries readers see at the top of the home page. Narrator agents turn articles into two-host listening audio. Video agents cut the daily anchor briefings and Shorts, under a hard daily quota, because quality beats quantity.

The guardrails matter more than the speed. Deep, long-form coverage — the 10-to-15-minute briefings — is reserved for curated sections: the featured desk and our Musk and NVIDIA pages. Content rights are tiered: material we own or genuinely enrich is fully indexable by search engines; thin aggregation is marked noindex so we never pretend it is more than it is. Anything with legal or safety implications escalates to a human. The founder is the only human escalation point, and the agents know it.

Why run a newsroom this way? Because a two-language, 24-hour news operation used to require a building full of people. Our operating cost is inference, not headcount — which is what makes a free, bilingual, always-on local-news service economically possible at all.
